Description: |
NS 15T pauses at Fort Payne, AL while awaiting the arrival of NS 178. the 10,000' long 15T had to hold the main at the edge of town as it would have blocked most every crossing in the little town. When 178 arrives it will pull down through town and continue is southward journey. |

NS 2556 |
Description: |
Once 80 strong, NS’s SD70 fleet has dwindled to only 4 active and 49 in storage (at the time of writing). With NS’s SD70ACC program having already claimed 27 of the venerable units. That along with NS having delved head first into PSR, older units will be first to be sidelined and stored. So the future for the SD70 fleet looks rather bleak and with only 4 active units roaming the rails that certainly could be an indication of things coming to pass. For now though it was nice just getting to see one personally if for the last time. |

NS 2556 leads NS 15T through Springville, AL. At the time of this photo the once 80 strong fleet of NS SD70's had fallen to only 53 with all but 4 in storage. It's doubtful that in light of NS's downsizing for the "precssion scheduled railroad" ideaology and the fact that SD70's are part of NS rebuild fodder that these will grace the rails much longer. |
